Indian cricket for the last few years has seen a seismic shift in the way cricket has been played. The players have been getting fitter and stronger and been more professional towards the game. It is not just about the work that has been put by the players but also the core management group of Ravi Shastri as the coach, Virat Kohli as the captain and Rohit Sharma as the vice-captain which has led to the difference in this attitude.
While Virat has led the side, Rohit has been an able deputy in the limited overs format and Ajinkya Rahne in the test match format have been doing their best to lead the side whenever Virat has been unavailable and has also have offered their regular suggestions when it comes to on-field decisions. However, we have recently seen the change in leadership undergo changes recently with Virat stepping down from the T-20 format and also reports of there being a change in the leadership in other formats too. Here are the other options which can be considered for selecting the next vice-captain of the team.
KL Rahul – Perhaps the most complete player in the country today, we have seen him lead a squad in the IPL where he has led Kings XI Punjab. With Punjab however he has not been the most successful overall but he has definitely seen instances where the captaincy that he has portrayed have been brilliant and he stays calm usually.
Rishabh Pant – Rishabh Pant is a player who has recently developed into a maverick player and he has since then also developed into a superb captain of the Delhi Capitals team. Rishabh is a brilliant player and has a clear overall mind. He leads by example and also has a lot of unconventional tricks up his sleeve.
Shreyas Iyer – Shreyas is a very natural leader who took his team Delhi Capitals to the finals after a long layoff. This is a big potential in the coming years who can be groomed for captaincy later on in his career. He should be seen as a big prospective captain in the coming years.
Prithvi Shaw – Prithvi has led the under 19 team for India and also lifted the trophy for the team. This is a player who has created quite the waves in international cricket too with his batting and would definitely be a potential candidate in the coming years for captaincy. He may be groomed early.
Jasprit Bumrah- We have seen Bumrah have a calm and intelligent head on his shoulder as a bowler and there is no reason why he cannot be the captain of this team in the coming years. He can certainly be groomed as a player who knows what to do in the grudge situations.
Hardik Pandya – An unlikely choice but a choice all the same. We have seen him give his inputs on important situations in the key games and we have seen him perform on big stages and it is going to be another option that the selectors may like to consider.
Vice-Captaincy is an underrated role in the cricket game and that will be a task for the selectors as they choose the next vice-captain for the Indian team. Things are only going to interesting for the team and exciting times may lie ahead.
The decision maybe made from the point of view of grooming a future captain but also keeping an eye on the present and the core leadership group. Those making Indian Cricket Prediction will be keeping an eye on this
